Beth & Peter – The diamond we couldn't find, so we created it!

Peter and Beth came to VONA with a very specific idea for her engagement ring.

Beth loved old mine cuts. She wanted the softness and character of an antique diamond, with broad facets and that distinctive visible culet, but she was also particular about the shape. She wanted an old mine cushion that wasn't too elongated.

We started looking for the right diamond, but nothing felt quite right.

So instead of compromising on the shape or proportions, we decided to create the diamond specifically for her.

We worked on the proportions to get the cushion shape Beth wanted, while keeping the characteristics that make an old mine cut so special. The result was a 1.6-carat lab-grown diamond with broad facets, a visible culet, and a completely different light return from a modern brilliant cut.

Once we had the diamond, the setting was intentionally kept simple. We chose 18K white gold, a low setting, and compass prongs so that the diamond remained the focus and the ring would sit comfortably on the hand.

This is one of my favourite things about bespoke. Sometimes it's not about choosing between the options that already exist. If we know exactly what we're looking for, we can create it!
